Death Cab For Cutie - The Open Door EP

Death Cab for Cutie's latest major album release, Narrow Stairs, was kind of a let down.  Where many fans were expecting a return to form after the anomaly of Plans, they instead received another album continuing on the path that Plans had paved.  Besides the epic 8-minute I Will Possess Your Heart, Narrow Stairs delivered only a few other quality tracks.  It initially seemed like that opinion would prove false after repeated listens, but alas, the truth shone through with time. 

This new EP, aptly titled The Open Door EP, is supposed to feature material that either wasn't good enough or didn't exactly fit with Narrow Stairs.  Most of these tracks do have a similar sound to their companion album, albeit slightly different/better in some cases (see also: Little Bribes).  The one stand-out track is featured below, I Was Once a Loyal Lover.  The slight distortion in the background adds so much to this song (you really notice when it disappears).  It really jumps out as a different type of song than the recent norm.  It's a beauty, hear for yourself:
